The French revolution began in June of 1789 when the people of France were divided into three estate groups. The Catholic clergy made up the first estate and the rich nobles were the second estate. The third and last estate made up three groups which were the middle class, urban workers and peasants.
These different groups were a major part of the French Revolution which started because of enlightenment ideals, economic problems, and bad leadership.
Some enlightenment ideals were based on the principles which included liberty and equality. When philosophers like Rousseau and Voltaire starting writing and quoting demands to equality, liberty and democracy, the people started to change their attitudes and soon a major document called the Declaration of the Rights of Man was created.
