Adults should be a positive role model in kids' lives, but what happens when they don't make the best choices? Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story between two “star crossed lovers.” They are married by Friar Lawrence, unbeknownst to their parents, and are torn when Romeo is banished. After this, Friar Lawrence gives poison to Juliet, which will end both her and Romeo’s lives. Due to Friar Lawrence's thoughtless plan, both teens are killed. Friar Lawrence played a substantial role in the story Romeo and Juliet. It is evident that Romeo sees him as a mentor through all the help that Friar Lawrence gives him. The story spirals after Juliet fakes her death which ultimately leads to both teenagers dying, at the hands of Friar Lawrence. His carelessness and belief that he knows best is what caused these kids to die. Friar Lawrence tries to keep himself innocent throughout the story by not revealing to anybody that he helped Juliet or Romeo in their marriage and in giving them poison. Once Juliet has faked her death, he says “Come, is the bride ready to go to church?” (IV, v, 39). This is proving him trying to act like he doesn’t know what happened. While he may try to paint himself as innocent, it is clear that he is to blame for both of their deaths. He tried to come up with an elaborate plan to end the family feud, but all he did was make matters worse. He finally admits to his flaws, but by then it is too late. “All this I know, and to the marriage” (V, iii, 274). His thoughtlessness caused both teenagers to die and it would have saved both of them if he wasn’t involved.
