Poet Khalil Gibran once wrote “Only love and death will change all things,”(Khalil Gibran). True love is often described as beautiful and romantic, but that’s not always the case in some relationships. In William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, the two main characters fall for each other, but their relationship leads to many obstacles and deaths. Friar Lawrence is a preacher and he is the most responsible for Romeo’s and Juliet’s deaths because he secretly married them, which lead to a loss of possibilities for the couple.

Romeo kills Tybalt for taking the life of his best friend Mercutio and his punishment is banishment from the town of Verona. Juliet finds out about Tybalt's death and Romeo’s banishment. Her parents think that she is so depressed about Tybalt’s death, but really she knows that she will never get to see Romeo again. To stop Juliet from mourning over Tybalt’s death her parents tell her that she will marry Paris on Wednesday in hope that she will be happy again. Juliet refuses to marry Paris so she goes to Friar Laurence's cell. Juliet and Friar Lawrence talk for awhile and together they come up with a solution. Friar Lawrence holds a small bottle up to Juliet and whispers “Take thou vial, being in bed, and this distilling liquor drink thou off,”(IV,i,93-94). Friar Lawrence is having Juliet fake her death so that she will not have to get married to Paris. Friar Lawrence then says “Thou shalt be borne to that same ancient vault where all the kindred of the Capulets lie. In the meantime, against thou shalt awake, shall Romeo by my letters know your drift, and hither shall he and I come,”(IV,i,111-115).
