Two great lovers, dead, in the hands of the mistakes of their God-Teachers. The Nurse and Friar Lawrence failed as God-Teachers because they were unsuccessful in protecting Romeo and Juliet in their last days, leading to their tragic deaths.
Friar Lawrence is seen as a very wise person, but later on in the story he began to make rushed decisions that were not be thought through. The marriage arranged from Friar Lawrence in Romeo and Juliet began the long road of conflicts later on in the story. Friar Lawrence said, “These violent delights have violent ends/ And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,/ Which as they kiss consume: the sweetest honey/ Is loathsome in his own deliciousness/ And in the taste confounds the appetite:/ Therefore

The Nurse allowing Romeo and Juliet’s marriage displayed her inability to be a good God-Teacher. The Nurse had said, “Then hie you hence to Friar Lawrence’s cell./ There stays a husband to make you a wife./ Now comes the wanton blood up in your cheeks./ They’ll be in scarlet straight at any news. /Hie you to church. I must another way,” (2.5.61-65). The Nurse’s inability to be a God-Teacher is shown because of her impulsiveness towards allowing Romeo and Juliet to get married. Finally The Nurse sending messages between Romeo and Juliet showed her lack of wisdom to be a God-Teacher. By my troth, it is well said. “For himself to mar,”/ quoth he? Gentlemen, can any of you tell me where I/ may find the young Romeo?” (2.4.60). However The Nurse making the decision to send messages between Romeo and Juliet despite her parents beliefs. This shows her immaturity and inability to be a God-Teacher. All in all, The nurse sending messages between Romeo and Juliet and allowing them to get married, showed her inability for foresight to be a God-Teacher. In conclusion, The Nurse and Friar Lawrence could have been better God-Teachers, But because of their lack of poise, their actions resulted in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. For example, Friar Lawrence allows Romeo and Juliet to get married as well as giving Juliet the potion to fake her death. This showed his lack of maturity because it was evident in each scene that he was no longer calm and composed, but more rushed and impulsive. In addition, The Nurse allowing Juliet to get marry Romeo, and sending messages between them were immature decisions. This was because she went against Juliet’s real parents and did things for her. These flaws in Friar Lawrence and The Nurse show that they are unable to be mature
