Friar Lawrence To Blame For The Deaths Of Romeo And Juliet

The word blame is defined as trying to pin the responsibility of a situation, onto someone else. People typically resort to blame when they cannot handle the weight, or consequences of their actions. In Romeo and Juliet, their deaths can be blamed upon many of the people in the story. Two of the people who are most at fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, are Friar Lawrence and Tybalt. Friar Lawrence is one of the people to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. One of the reasons Friar Lawrence is to blame for their deaths, is that he married Romeo and Juliet. After talking to Juliet at her home, Romeo goes to talk with Friar Lawrence. Romeo claims to be over his past love, and wants Friar Lawrence to marry him and Juliet. The Friar at first says no, but receives divine influence and marries them. If the Friar did not marry Romeo and Juliet, there would have been no fights in the square, nor any potions. One of the primary ways Tybalt caused their deaths was when he told Juliet who Romeo was. During the party, Romeo and Juliet lock eyes and begin a conversation. Unbeknownst to Juliet, the person who she was talking to was a Montague named Romeo. After the party, while everyone was leaving, Juliet asks Tybalt who it was she talked too, and he told her Romeo. This was a factor in their deaths, because if Tybalt did not tell Juliet, who Romeo was, they probably would not get married. Subsequently, Tybalt again influenced their deaths by killing Mercutio. After marrying Juliet, Romeo goes to the town square and causes a fight between Tybalt and Mercutio. Tybalt accidentally kills Mercutio, and Romeo kills Tybalt. This caused Romeo and Juliet’s deaths, because Romeo cannot kill Tybalt because of his social status, when he does kill him, Romeo is to be banished or executed.
