Romeo and Juliet is a story of two teenagers that are young and in love. Juliet is a Capulet, and Romeo is a Montague, which creates conflict. Both of the families have hated each other for generations. The couple’s love overpowers family opposition and Romeo and Juliet decide to get married. The families are destined to break them apart. Juliet takes a sleeping potion to appear dead, so her and Romeo can be together. Moments later, Juliet wakes up and finds Romeo dead. In act 2, Romeo asks the Friar to marry him and Juliet. Instead of weighing the consequences, the Friar agrees to marry the couple in hopes it will unify the Capulet and Montague families. “For this alliance may so happy probe to turn your households' rancor to pure love” (Shakesphere act 2 scene 3). This example shows that Friar Lawrence only recognized how the marriage would benefit the families of Romeo and Juliet. The Friar failed to recognize the issues that would occur if he married the couple. Second, the Friar gave Juliet the potion. Friar Lawrence is responsible because he gave the potion to Juliet. Juliet is feeling hopeless because she does not want to marry Paris. Juliet will Gier 2 do anything it takes to not marry Paris. As a result, she consults the Friar. He has a potion that will make her appear dead. The plan is for Juliet to take the potion and be put by the other dead bodies. A letter will be sent to Romeo and he will find her there. Juliet takes the potion putting all her trust in the Friar. “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, from off the battlements of any tower or walk in thievish ways,” (Shakesphere act 6 scene 1). The letter was never delivered to Romeo. Romeo took his own life because he thought Juliet was dead. All of this would never have happened if the Friar would have realized just how dangerous this potion was. Third, the letter was never delivered to Romeo. Friar Lawrence is to blame because was responsible for delivering the letter to Romeo and failed to do so. A letter was supposed to be delivered to Romeo letting him in on the plan. It was supposed to reveal that Juliet was just sleeping and waiting for romeo. Bathsar saw all the commotion going on at the funeral and went to let Romeo know “Juliet had passed”. In reality, she was just under the effects of the potion. The letter never got to Romeo. When Romeo got to the tomb he saw Juliet and she appeared to be dead. “For here lies Juliet, and her beauty makes this vault a feasting presence full of light. Death, lie thou there, by a dead man interred” (Shakesphere act 5 scene 3). This example shows that Friar Lawrence is to blame because he never carried out the plan to deliver the letter to Romeo.
