Romance has been the most interesting subject of many stories for hundreds of years, and yet, the most well-known has to be the romantic tragedy of two star crossed lovers. Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a romantic tragedy about two star crossed lovers whose deaths are caused by the feud between the Montague and Capulet family. Romeo and Juliet’s deaths are caused by Friar Lawrence and Tybalt. Friar Lawrence and Tybalt are most at fault for Romeo and Juliet’s death because of Friar Lawrence’s lack of communication while Tybalt is always causing drama since he wants to fight. Friar Lawrence’s lack of communication caused Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. One example is when Friar Lawrence was supposed to send a very important …show more content…

One example is when Romeo is banished from Verona for killing Tybalt, “And for that offence / Immediately we do exile him hence. / … / Therefore use none. Let Romeo hence in hast. / Bear hence this body and attend our will. / Mercy but murders, pardoning those that kill.” (3.1.183-184,191-194). This quote shows that Tybalt is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death since Romeo is not able to keep in touch with Juliet unless she runs away to visit Romeo. However, when Friar Lawrence creates the plan for Juliet to skip wedding day, Romeo was not informed causing the deaths of Romeo and Juliet to be responsible by Tybalt. Another quote that shows that Tybalt is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is when he sends the letter to Romeo and Mercutio since he wanted to fight them, “Tybalt, the kinsman to old Capulet, / Hath sent a letter to his father’s house.” (2.4.6-7) This quote shows that Tybalt wants to fight Mercutio and Romeo. If the letter was never sent, then they would not have fought and everybody would still be alive. This shows that Tybalt is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death since he was the one that started the fight causing Mercutio and Tybalt to be killed while Romeo was banished from Verona. He is an advisor for Romeo and Juliet and he has tried to help both of them get together a lot of times. One of those times is when Friar Lawrence offers Juliet the vial, “If, rather than marry County Paris, / Thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself, /Then is it likely thou wilt undertake / A thing like death to chide away this shame, / That cop’st with death himself to scape from it; / And, if thou darest, I’ll give thee remedy.” (4.1.71-76) This quote shows that Friar Lawrence is willing to help both Romeo and Juliet be together so he should not be responsible for their deaths. Even if it was his fault, Friar John would be the one to blame instead of Friar Lawrence because he was in charge of getting the letter to Romeo. Another quote that shows that Friar Lawrence is not to blame is when he says he would keep Romeo updated on Juliet even though he was not in Verona, “Or by the break of day disguised from hence. / Sojourn in Mantua. I’ll find out your man, / And he shall signify from time to time / Every good hap to you that chances here. / Give me thy hand. 'Tis late. Farewell; good night.” (3.3.168-173) This quote shows that Friar Lawrence is not to blame because even though Romeo has been banished from Verona, he is still willing to keep Romeo updated about Juliet. This is also something he is doing risky because if he was caught doing it, he would probably also be banished from
