I paint reality”. This is one of Kahlo’s famous quotes. Her purpose for creating art was the fact that she wanted to do something other than studying. She wanted the world to know who she really was through her paintings, drawings, and sketches. She painted what she felt. Even though she was influence by many great artists she had her own unique style that made others viewed her artwork as unreal. She wanted the world to ear her cries and feel her pain and suffering though her eyes were dry and her lips were silent. She decided to become an artist after her tragic bus accident when she was eighteen-years-old.

One of Frida’s artwork that appeals to me is “Diego and I”. During the period when her husband Diego was having dishonorable affair with one of her very good friend Maria Felix she painted this self-portrait. The long hair around her neck suggested that she felt trapped and strangled by the situation. Her obsession with him is symbolized by the image of him on her forehead.
