Recommended: The theme of the story of mice and men
In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck there are many themes but the main one is brotherhood. On page 22 of the story Of Mice and Men George says,“He 's my...cousin” The boss of the job that George and Lennie are applying for is questioning whether George and Lennie are traveling together because that doesn 't happen that often. This quote proves that the theme is brotherhood because George is willing to lie to protect Lennie. Also on page 32 George says, “I seen 'em poison before but I never seen no piece of jail bait worse than her.” George and Lennie have just ran into Curley 's wife and George is warning Lennie not to interact with her if he knows what is good for
There are many really great themes in the book Of Mice and Men. The thematic subject is friendship/companionship. The theme this book portrays the most will deal with the character Lennie Small. In John Steinbeck’s story, Of Mice and Men shows that friends stay together until the end. The first reason why I believe the theme I chose is correct because in the story George tells Lennie to stay with him even though Lennie is a bother to him.
In the novel of “Of Mice and Men” power and friendship is the very bases of the story. There are many people with power in the book but I specifically was interested in Curley’s power. Curley is the son of the Ranch’s boss and he is very spoiled. He does not listen to rules and usually gets away with any trouble he makes or gets into.
We all may have had the feeling of loneliness and isolation, wanting companionship feeling abandonment. In John Steinbeck’s novella, Of Mice and Men, there are men living on a ranch having their own reasons for loneliness or being isolated. The three characters Crooks, George, and Lennie crusade dealing with own ways of loneliness and isolation. Crooks has no one that likes him because he’s black, Lennie struggles mentally and George struggles with always having to care for him. They all can’t decide whether it is that they want to be alone or not.
According to my observations, the vast majority of life's contacts function only to make us feel alienated and unwanted. Traveling with someone helps us feel less alone than traveling alone. George and Lennie, the characters of John Steinbeck's classic Of Mice and Men, are two outcasts. They may appear to be different on the exterior, yet they are incredibly similar on the inside. Simply said, here is where true friendships are formed.
The Death of a Friendship By definition, murder is the unlawful killing of a person by another person. However, the difference between a murder and a mercy killing is not easily defined, as proven in Of Mice and Men. The novella, written by John Steinbeck, takes place in the 1930s. This era was full of hardship and untrustworthiness.
Loneliness and isolation is an ongoing theme throughout the novel Of Mice and Men, experienced by several characters to different degrees. Some characters are more isolated and lonely than others, yet every character in the story goes through this theme during one point in the story. There are various reasons why each character is lonely or isolated. In general, all the ranch workers feel some sort of loneliness because they move alone from ranch to ranch and do not have real connections with others, Curley’s wife experiences this theme because she is the only woman on the ranch and nobody wants to interact with her because Curley is very protective and hostile of her. Thirdly, Candy struggles through being lonely and isolated after Carlson shot his dog and because Candy does not work with the others since he is a swamper.
Of Mice and Men was published in 1937 during a time of bi-racism between the caucasians and the african americans, and the apathetic Great Depression, which may have served as inspiration. In the novel two opposites attract, a gargantuan but mentally challenged man by the name of Lennie, and a small, nimble, and intelligent man named George. Suffering from a mental illness Lennie gets into trouble when he 's alone, but George always saves him, George knows Lennie doesn 't do anything, “out of meanness” as he says. Undoubtedly the reader assimilates that Lennie kills a young lady, said to have done so accidentally. Furthermore without any control George was forced to kill Lennie.
In John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, the era of the Great Depression in the 1930’s is revealed through a simple story of ranch workers who hope to improve their lives. Migrant workers, George and Lennie, have a friendship that is based on trust and protection. The other workers lack the companionship and bond that these two men have. In the novel, the absence and presence of friendship is the motivation for the characters’ actions.
In John Steinbeck´s Of Mice and Men, the ideas of companionship and friendship are addressed greatly. George and Lennie are companions who have traveled alongside each other for a long time. They have to keep moving because Lennie causes trouble, and essentially strains their relationship. Although they have issues, they have a deep connection which benefits each of them. Steinbeck´s Of Mice and Men uses motifs and characterization to show that companionship is beneficial to individuals.
Theme is the message about life or human nature that is “the focus” in the story that the writer tells ( Glossary of Literary Terms 3). A theme in this story would be “Love and Blindness”. This falls under the theme category because it is saying love itself changes the way you are as a person but it also has its blindness. The “blindness” is not so much of not being able to see them physically but how they truly are as a person. A person can be very depressing, arrogant, or even abusive but the person in love will see past it hence the term blind.
In John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men there are a lot of themes. The themes consist of friendship, loneliness, discrimination and dreams. All of these themes are important, and play immense role in the outcome at the end. The major theme is that friends stick together; unconditionally; this is demonstrated through Lennie and George's actions in Weed, in the bunk house, and in the aftermath of Curly's wife's death. One example of true friends sticking together is exemplified when George stays with Lennie after Lennie's actions in Weed.
In the novella Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeckm writes about two friends, Lennie Smalls and George Milton, who face difficulties during the Great Depression. Because of Lennie’s mental disability, the two have traveled from job to job for the majority of their lives. Lennie and George's friendship can be perceived as family, but it takes a turn when Lennie accidentally expresses violence. One of the significant themes is friendship.
To me the best theme in the story is friendship. I believe that every person needs to show friendship to
A true friendship is something that everyone wants to have but not everyone can have it. in the novella Of Mice and Men the author shows the true meaning of friendship and these 2 best friends Lennie and George shows that they have Friendship and they love each other, care for each other and always have their backs i give some really great evidence and try to show you the relationship these guys had. Through the book George one of the two main characters he shows how he cares and takes care of his good friend the other important character Lennie, who was a mental disability but he still loves him but he does show some tough love. In the book George has been shown numerous times that he takes care of Lennie but the first quote It 's because Lennie was in trouble he was about to die,but his friend does something really beautiful “Couldn 't we just lock him up the poor bastards nuts{steinbeck 87}”In this quote he 's trying to convince the guys who were about to kill him by saying he didn 't know what he was doing,This quote means that he really cares for his friend and he 's trying to save him.
