This event is important to the event as a whole as it shows the rivalry between the Capulets and the Montagues is very strong and it doesn't take much for this rivalry to go over the edge and result in havoc and more revenge and hatred between the two families. This scene also shows that Tybalt wanted more revenge on Romeo than to just kill his best friend but to also kill him, it also shows Tybalt thought very highly of himself as he was asking for Romeo to fight him as he thought we could kill him as well as Mercutio.
