This actually shows friendship because George can’t see another solution that doesn’t involve them being on the run from the law. What happened here was that Lennie ended up killing Curley’s wife which then when the rest of the ranch found out they went on a manhunt to find and kill him. Curley actually wanted to torture him to death. So what George ends up doing is sparing him from this fate by killing himself. The book states, “Lennie said, "I thought you was mad at me, George." To give a summary of one of the senses would be when they got captured by a guy they thought they had killed and start to get tortured by him.
