Sibling-relationships have an essential role in the development for young adult readers as individuals and bring out as much emotions of joy, rage, pain, frustration and pleasure. For this reason sibling-relationships typically remains the longest since young adult readers begins an earlier friendship with their siblings. Cecile Johnson gave birth to us. We came out of Cecile Johnson. In the animal kingdom that makes her our mother. Cecile Johnson – mammal birth giver, alive, an abandoner – is our mother. A statement of fact” , summarizes the acknowledgement she gained from accepting the fact that their mother abandon them but she will always be their mother (Williams-Garcia 14). Only eleven years old Delphine carries her responsibilities as the oldest sister greatly. The chapter named “Everyone Knows the King of the Sea” is dedicated to Delphine’s contemplation about her mother’s change of name. Cecile changing her name is something that Delphine doesn’t understand nor appreciate why she want to change her identity. A name is a form of identity and changing it makes Delphine considering to do the same. However, Delphine is proud of her name. Her name is different and it make her whole as an individual. For Delphine, “A name is important. It isn’t something you drop in the litter basket or on the ground. Your name is how people know you”, she feel deeply connected to her because knowing the truth about her name wouldn’t make her change it. It is the result of no sharing her name with someone in school that signifies her being different (Williams-Garcia 80). Delphine is the best at maturing nicely for her age. She is so responsible and at the same time, even though she say and do things that clearly outside the norm for young girls her age. Deep down inside of Delphine is a really young girl whom experiencing a huge and unfair
