My Future Goals in Project Management
While I am currently working as a project officer in a government communications office, the time allocated to this task comprises only twenty percent of my workload. In addition, the scope of work is composed of several requirements and deliverables that utilize skills of which I have limited knowledge, such as translating science-based content into blogs and Drug Facts for the teen audience. It is when I am reviewing these deliverables that I feel that I lack the proper knowledge to make appropriate decisions, leaving me to doubt my overall ability to lead the project. I was given my current project with no experience, which continually left me feeling like I was fumbling through the project and unsure of my decisions. Luckily, the project did not fail, yet I recognize that there are numerous opportunities for improvement. Completing the PMAN program will allow me to confidently seek out full time employment in project management since I will then have the proper training to coincide with my experience. In addition, learning proper procedures will increase my confidence in decision-making and contract documentation, thereby increasing my team's confidence and production. As my skills improve, I'll be establishing credibility as one who successfully and routinely exceeds expectations. The tools that I acquire in my coursework will not only aid me in my work as I also hope to create guides and document procedures for the office, such as a checklist of what to expect during a project life-cycle. I believe these resources would benefit new comers to the institute, as well as others whom like me, are given a project without any prior project management
