G.H. Mead was born in Massachusetts on February 27, 1863. He was mainly trained in philosophy and applications in social philosophy. Mead is considered to be the most important gure behind symbolic interactionism: Though he was never really successful in writing, most of his views, opinions and teachings are found in the book Mind; Self and Society which was a book based on the notes of the students who were taught by Mead. Mead gave priority to the social world in understanding social experiences in social psychology. Here, the issues are addressed by following an empirical method, rather than an empistemological or methodological, like Mannheim. They consider the sociology of knowledge to be part of the empirical discipline of sociology.
