THE IMPORATNCE OF GENERAL PETRAEUS TO MOSUL
During Iraq war there were many great leaders throughout all branches of the Military. The Army had General (GEN) Petraeus, Lieutenant General Sanchez, and Brigadier General Kimmitt to only name a select few. One of the most important and influential leaders that played a huge part in the war and the stabilization of the city of Mosul was GEN Petraeus. GEN Petraeus arrived to Mosul with his Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division, and started right away to secure the area. GEN Petraeus knew that the city of Mosul was violent and in disarray due to anti coalition forces in the area. A strategy would have to be put in place in order to get into Mosul, set the tone for the new Mosul and hold an election, and then implement his strategy to help the citizens of Mosul be set up for success. This was no easy task but GEN Petraeus was the Army leader that could make it work.
HOW TO GET INTO THE CITY OF MOSUL

Since there were so many members of the city that were Saddam loyalist at one time or another, GEN Petraeus had former members of the Ba’ath party in key political position. “The governor's a former Baathist, Of course, you know, he left the Baath Party in 1993 when his brother was killed, his cousin was killed, and he was forcibly retired for conspiring against Saddam…” (Smith, 2003).
