On a national level, the unemployment rate has stayed steady at 4.1 percent (Ferreira, 2018). In 2015, the spending in the United States logistics and transportation industry totaled $1.48 trillion, making up 8 percent of gross domestic product for the year. Trucking alone moved more than 10.4 billion tons of freight and brought in $676.2 billion in 2016 (Logistics & Transportation Industry, 2018). The amount of money that this industry brings in towards the gross domestic product really shows how important this segment is to the industry and the impact it can have on the economy. Compared to the national unemployment rate, Nebraska’s is much lower. Nebraska ended 2017 with an unemployment rate of 2.7 percent, which is an improvement from the 3.3 percent it was at the previous year (Davis, 2017). This program allows trainees to get hands-on, realistic training experience that will prepare them when dealing with actual customers. This provides GIX Logistics a huge advantage because it allows trainees to gain experience using the software that they will be using everyday on the job. A hands-on training program is a major benefit for GIX because it makes conditions as realistic as possible. This also allows employees to feel confident by improving skills by repetition. Offering hands-on training is essential when recruiting because it can also offer feedback from other peers and performance can be observed. Also, letting possible trainees know about hands-on training program can be an advantage over the competition.
