Gabriel Garcia Marquez has lived through many events and has had many experiences which have contributed to him becoming a writer, and also has had many influences that have allowed him to make connections with his audience. Having lived during the tragedies of his era, Marquez connects with his audience using current and relevant events in which his audience can connect to and better understand what his messages are within his novels. Gabriel Garcia Marquez was born in 1928 in Aracataca, a banana-growing town in Northern Columbia. He began to incorporate his past and current events in his novels which allowed him to better connect with his audience because the information he was writing about was very influential and had a connection to his diverse audience. The Piedra y Cielo poetic movement had a huge affect on Marquez. The movement taught him a “system for metamorphosing” and how to have enthusiasm for poetry, Marquez states that he's not even sure that he would of even became an outstanding writer, which demonstrates how strongly this movement was for him (Lamrani). He wrote genres of short stories and novels using many writing techniques such as anecdotes to make his writing more interesting and unique, they became very popular during the Latin America Boom and Magical Realism Movements. Each of Marquez’s novels had it’s own unique style to it and its own mood. The only thing Marquez felt they should have in common is the reality. Two of his very detailed visual novels are Leaf Storm and One Hundred Years of Solitude. In 1974 Marquez and a few of intellectuals formed the revue alternative in Colombia where Marquez expressed his support for the Cuban Revolution (Lamrani). The problems occurring during that time were very destructive towards their society, it allowed Marquez to incorporate this idea into his novels because he knew these problems would allow the audience to connect. This event had a huge impact on his work, it became very well known and was bought by many people at that time because they were very interested in what he was writing (Marquez). He became a cultural icon because he created his own rich blend of literary realism. He became very well known and became recognized for his great and impressive works. As his fame grew he became a friend to international dignitaries such as U.S. President Bill Clinton (Stephens). Not only did the Cuban Revolution affect him but also The War of a Thousand Days, The Banana Strike Massacre, and La Violencia. These three tragic events caused togther 250,000 deaths. Some of these episodes are anchored in the background of his fiction, his emotions felt within his novels are very powerful because these events are so devastating and allowed him to reveal that within his work
