1. What is subduction and how did it plus faulting lead to the formation of Catalina’s island? Blueschist, greenschist, and amphibolite rocks are typically found in this order from top to bottom. Amphibolite is found at more intense pressures and temperatures than schists are found due to these metamorphic rocks being made from sediments that get subducted back down into the mantle. The unique Catalina Schist was formed when these layers of rock in the Farallon plate became subducted underneath the North American plate and eventually becoming “stuck.”

There are many reasons why Los Corrales is my favorite spot to dine in on a Sunday night. I never knew about this place until my dad came home one and night and explained to us he had ordered a quesadilla and he couldn’t believe his eyes. My mouth got watery as he explained the quesadilla was as long as twelve inches and filled with beef and melted Chihuahua cheese on the inside and how the cheese was starting to come out the edges of the corn tortilla and, with some hot sauce it couldn’t get any better. Los Corrales has a selection from the sea, American and, Mexican food. When I step foot into this restaurant I feel at home not only because of their very fine made Mexican style of cooking but, because all of the employees are extremely friendly and, glad to help their customers.
Thetis Island is one of the spectacular Gulf Islands located in the Salish Sea between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia. Known around the world for its natural beauty, the area’s coastal environment is unlike any other in Canada. Rare plants and animals that are adapted to the region’s mild marine climate thrive here, but ever-increasing demand for land to develop threatens the ecosystems that make the Gulf Islands so special. Thetis Island’s two most prominent land features, Moore Hill and Burchell Hill, are familiar landmarks for many Salish Sea powerboaters and sailors. An ambitious project would see a new 16-hectare nature reserve on the slopes of Burchell Hill, the high point on the west side of the island.
Underwater at 8:18am, it is very foggy this morning, we cannot see Isla Tiburon from the North boat ramp to give you a sense. Since the age ten I had waited eagerly for years for my quinceañera to come. A quinceañera, meaning fifteen years, is an event meant to mark the transition from childhood to adulthood, but when I was ten I was not thinking of the importance of a quinceañera. In my callow head it was just a grand party being held for me in which I would get tons of gifts and money. I knew what a quinceañera was, but I did not pay much attention to the meaning behind it. Little did I know I would have to stop playing with dolls sooner than later.
For far too long the voice of the voiceless has been suppressed by those who are in power, the Gachupines. The revolt in Guanajuato in the Alhondiga proved to be a turning point because it showed that when the “pueblo” is united it will never be defeated. For instance, about 20,000 to 25,000 supporters of Miguel Hidalgo de Costilla were beside him in the siege of the Alhondiga de Granaditas on September 28, 1810. Hence, his strong movement that is quickly gaining a lot of support is not a just a quest for independence, but it is a social and economic war against those who are in power, the Gachupines. They keep overexploiting our resources to their advantage at the expense of our country.
While its geographical position close to the equator would correspond to a tropical climate, with dense vegetation, several factors make the Peruvian coast extremely arid desert. On the one hand, the presence of the Andes to the east prevents wind and moisture laden clouds reach the coast; secondly, the presence of the Peruvian or Humboldt Current, cold water, generates a phenomenon typical of the Peruvian coast, which prevents the presence of tropical rains, providing instead moisture accumulation by way of a dense mantle: the fog. With no rains on the Peruvian coast, the main source of water are rivers, born in the Andes that run westward flowing into the Pacific Ocean. The rivers cut through the desert, forming valleys are real oasis. While

In the play, The Tempest, by William Shakespeare, there are two instances of sibling power struggles present throughout this comedy, which both have common motivations. These two power struggles were those between Prospero and Antonio and also between Alonso and Sebastian, each were caused by one sibling’s desire to gain a political position. The main culprits in these power struggles are Antonio, who took his brother’s place as Duke of Milan, and Sebastian, who tried to take his brother’s place as King of Naples. Both of these men made these attempts at power due to greed, convenience, and qualification. Therefore, The Tempest featured two dominant plays for power, which were motivated by avarice, convenience, and qualification.
A Life of Broken Promises: Environmental Racism in America My fascination to learn more about the environment began my freshman year of high school. When I decided to take a Marine Science and A.P. Environmental class, I discovered different types of relationships between humans and effects of the environment. I first learned about environmental racism from exploring different environmental policies across the nation based on demographics, specifically areas based on income in upper/middle to low class communities. A few years after graduating high school, the country was hit with the Flint Water crisis in Flint, Michigan, a prominently African American, low income based neighborhood.
