According to www.yourdictionary.com organized crime is illegal behavior planned and carried out by groups in systematic fashion. Organized crime today is a result of mostly Lucky Luciano, The Gambino Crime family, and the Chicago Outfit. Lucky Luciano is known as the father of modern organized crime. This is because of two things, he split New York into 5 different crime families. Luciano, Mangano, Profaci, marangano, and gagliano. Each had a head and their last name was the name of the crime family. These groups dominated New york city as well as new jersey and florida for many years. They are notorious for being the most powerful of the five crime families of new york. When people think of the mafia, they should think Gambino. They took advantage of the prohibition of alcohol to make money. Overall, they are extremely powerful and looked up to. The Chicago outfit is the more american side of organized crime. Led by al capone, they are more well known for illegally dealing liquor during the prohibition era. However they did agree help the military to overthrow Fidel Castro in exchange for access to casinos that they were banned from. This gave birth to the american side of organized crime. But in 2007 the FBI managed to convict five highly respected members.
