Gas Vs Diesel Compare And Contrast

1114 Words5 Pages

The two most used vehicles on the road today are gas and diesel. Yes their are hybrids and all that good stuff but this paper focuses on gas and diesel. The reason being is because they are the most fun to talk about. Gasoline engines generate power through burning of gasoline. It is ignited by a spark from the spark plug and create more horsepower. Also gasoline engines are cheaper, depending on how you look at it to maintain. Gasoline is easy to refuel, and produce very little emissions. In earlier days, gasoline engines were the go to for farmers, they cost less and did better for plowing and threshing duties. Gas engines are quieter and very little vibrations. Compared to diesel prices, it is much cheaper to refuel gas than diesel. Diesel …show more content…

The price of gas has risen way up since the early days. Costs a ton more to refuel than what it used to. Owning a gas powered car is very convenient because their is a gas station and auto repair facility around every corner. Gas powered vehicles still cost less than most of the new hybrids and such, so gas are overpowering them still. Why it cost less is because hybrids need all of the high research and development and gas has been around for hundreds of years, so we do not need to research or develop a new engine, we just do it because it has been around for a while. Some hybrid models may also cost more to repair and maintain, especially if the hybrid drive components, which again, cost a lot of money, more than gas, such as the electric motor or battery pack, require replacement. Depending on an individual driver's needs and long-term trends in the price of gasoline, the additional cost of a hybrid car may or may not be offset by its fuel savings. Again, hybrid cars are newer, so there are fewer used models available at any given time. This drives up their cost and makes used gas-powered cars even more interesting to drivers with very small budgets. Now gas powered cars are more abundant as of right now. Another advantage of a gas-powered car is its range. An example would be, a car with a 20-gallon gas tank that achieves an average fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon can travel 400 miles before needing to be refueled. That's important for drivers looking to spend less money at the pump. Some diesel vehicles can improve gas mileage by 20 percent or more, which is a huge amount when it comes to saving money at the pump. And while others don't increase fuel economy that much, they can offer better gas mileage and acceleration that feels like a larger engine. Of course, hybrid cars also save at the pump, and drivers have to carefully consider which is better for their lifestyle. An example would be, hybrids may be better in town, while diesels offer a greater benefit on the highway. Many drivers prefer hybrid technology to diesel powertrains because hybrid cars are more beneficial in the city. The reason is hybrids offer regenerative braking that helps boost gas mileage as you're slowing down. But for those who spend a lot of time on the highway, there's nothing like a diesel car, great, great mileage. And that is what everyone wants. One example is the Volkswagen Jetta TDI, which is only rated for around 30 miles per gallon in city driving, which in my opinion, is pretty darn good. Then you go to the highway part of it, big ol 42 miles per gallon and that is even better. The same is true for the Chevrolet Cruze Diesel, rated at 27 mpg in the city but a biggen 46 mpg in highway driving, even better than the Volkswagen. Now I would suggest a diesel car if you do a lot of highway driving. Diesels also offer
