I believe that love has the power to ruin or uplift a person. In the four texts about, the common theme of the affect of love. The four texts I studied are; The Fault In Our Stars directed by Josh Boone, Heavenly Creatures directed by Peter Jackson, The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Dustbins written by Witi Ihimaera. I will write about the texts separately and then make my connections.

The Fault In Our Stars directed by Josh Boone, is about the development of a relationship between two teenagers, who battle with cancer. In the story you can see how their relationship makes a huge and exciting change in each of their lives. “As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep, and then all at once.” My theme of the affects of love is shown in this …show more content…

Scott Fitzgerald is based on a love triangle between Daisy, Tom and Gatsby. The storyline took place in the 1920s, where the character Daisy had to make a decision whether she wanted to stay with Tom her cheating husband or be with Gatsby. In this novel, money plays a huge role in who Daisy chooses to be with in the end. My theme of the affect of love, is shown in this text because while Gatsby intentions were true, he did a lot for Daisy so they could possibly be together one day.“ It excited him too, that many men had already loved Daisy- it increased her value in his eyes.” Daisy was in love with both of them which made her decision challenging. Towards the very end of the story, we see that Daisy chooses Tom, who she had a daughter with, and she lived an extravagant lifestyle with him, along with that her and Tom were in the same class unlike herself and Gatsby, Daisy felt secure with Tom. This story makes a connection to Heavenly Creatures because, someone loses their life due the effects their love had on themselves or other people. This story is similar to the Fault In Our Stars because they both show that a person can be uplifted by love and then ruined by
