I personally do not like bias, however I believe we all have bias whether we are aware of them or not. I strive to be aware of my bias and continue to expose myself to situations in which I have discovered a bias. I have personally experienced gender bias over the years. As a woman who owns and operates a construction company, I am confronted with it regularly. It became a running joke in my framing crew. Every time a guy came to the job site looking for a job, they always thought they would impress the boss if they came and took my nail gun from me. Stating “Here little lady, let me do that for you, it looks too heavy for you.” I would smile, let them take the gun and start working, while they inevitable asked me

If it is a bias we know we have but are trying to put down, we may turn our attention away from. People sometimes find it easier to ignore it if it rings true in our way of thinking. I think when we have a bias we were not aware of and it is brought to our attention, we feel shame. We can see standards in society that are affect by bias, such as pay differences for women and men in the same position, some gender bias still hold strong as far as women in certain positons and the reverse men in domestic roles although these are slowly evolving. Being from an older generation, I think there are many who would not like to see a woman as President. The bias of the older generations will make the run for President difficult for Hillary Clinton. During the election of President Obama when he and Clinton were running against each other, I told my husband they will elect him before her. In our own history Black males got the vote before women did, and I believed the same would hold true and it did. I think the bias is still there and don’t believe she will get the election this year, even considering the poor choice of the other candidate. Although, it would make me happy to be proven wrong and see such a growth in our countries bias on
