Bias and prejudice often take many different forms-from threat, violent and bullying. Nearly everyone has experience a time they wish they would say something in response to someone else insensitive remark or joke based on stereotypes or racial/ethnic slur. In this essay, I will be talk about how Twilight by Anna Deavere Smith talks about violence and racial injustice and how Trifles by Susan Glaspell deals with the idea of gender bias and prejudice. That is to say: the title, the characteristics, the conflicts and the theme ,all work together to paint not only a picture of Mrs. Wright with John Wright ,but by the roles that woman play or are force to play in the society. The play takes place in one house, the house of Mr. and Mrs. Wright. The play opens with three men and two women in the Wright’s abandoned house. One can tell how dirty the house is by entering the kitchen. Among these three men were; Mr. Wright neighbor’s, Mr. Hale, the sheriff, and the county Attorney. Mr. Hale’s wife is one of the women and also the sheriff wife Mrs. Peters. In the play, the sheriff and the county Attorney seem to have disregarded the view of women and their importance to the society. They sort of push the women aside as if they aren’t able to do anything else other than stay in the kitchen. This is a typical stereotype where women are meant to stay in the kitchen and do things men tell them.
