When asked the question “Are women truly valued as men’s equals in American culture today?” many would agree that they are not. Women have come a long way in the fight for equal rights in this country, but it is one step forward and two steps back. There are many different issues in America that women are still either fighting for or against. Issues such as Economic justice, women’s reproductive rights, violence against women, and LGBTQ rights, are always hot topics. As equal as some people may say women are there are obviously setbacks we are facing. It is common for people to bring up that we have the 19th amendment for women, but that alone is just not enough. A big picture America needs to look at while trying to solve the problem of the inequality of women, is recognizing all of the different kinds of women we have. When trying to solve these problems we have to consider different races, ethnicity, religious background, sexual orientation, and class. All of these women have unique experiences because of their differences. How often do you read an article, see a protest, or an entire news segment, fighting against the rights of a man’s body? Politicians don’t want any kind of control over a man’s body, while a female’s right to her body is treated as a prize to be won. It is common for people to focus the topic of reproductive rights just on abortion, but there are many other important things women are losing access to. Women are losing access to safe and affordable reproductive health care services. Employers don’t want to cover the insurance costs of birth control for their female employees, this woman also suffers when the employer offers slim to none for maternity
