Thousands of years ago in ancient history the roles of women and men were very different than todays society. When we look back in history we only think of survival, however it’s much more than that. When it comes to survival we have to look beyond its definition and describe how they were able to accomplish every day to day life. A great example is how they did it and what their roles were. As we all know the men played a great role in helping maintain the home by working hard outside on a daily basis to provide food on the table as well as protecting the home by defending their own. It doesn’t necessarily mean they weren’t, its just that our way of being equal is different from there’s. Today we see our ancestors and think the gender roles were terrible because the women were lower than men. However, in that point of time they believed in many Gods and felt they were doing what was necessary to survive and to keep a stable name in the society. The women would be in charge of maintaining the household by doing indoor work and the men would run the house by doing the outside work. Along with this being said, the women living during this time period main felt that their main purpose were to marry and bear children, and take care of the husband. However, when we read about ancient Greece, women rarely left the house and they were always in control under the men. Yet in Rome, women tended to have more control over their own as well as having more freedom than in Greece. China on the other hand would be expected to supervise the work of the servants if they were upper class. The women also handled the house holds the same but differently differing from house hold to house hold. A couple of things that were done differently would have been the cooking, raise the kids, and speaking different languages. Another major difference would be their education as well. When we review history of the ancient Chinese, they believed the education of the women weren’t important. Women also were not allowed to take exams and therefore could not enter into government service. Which lacked the majority of women going to school. Some of them who had scholars as fathers could learn from them, but female scholars were very rare. Over in Ancient Rome the women were able to attain a degree of education and to absorb and reflect the culture. Compared to Rome, Spartan women also received a form of education, however it was supervised and controlled by the state, and the education system was very strict as well.
