In the Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald portrays the significance of women's roles in different situations. From Daisy becoming an ultimate prize and objective of fuel, to the damsel in distress. Or be it Jordan coming across as an, elegant sports woman whom enjoys smoking, drinking and partying just like a normal figure in the story, or common male in the party scene within the novel's chapters. In some respects, Fitzgerald writes about gender roles in a quite conservative manner.

One man falls in love and tries to change his life depending on the situation and scenario that is taking place. It's about a girl and a guy trying to be together. So the main protagonist, in this affair is Gatsby. He wants to be with Daisy whom is a goal,trophy and reward to him. He changed his life, lied and went into illegal activities to be able to obtain a statis worthy of comparing with Daisy. So you could say that Daisy, as a woman drove Gatsby's life without having direct contact. This in effect meant Daisy came across as a goal and a driving force.

The depiction of woman is really different in the novel as both major female roles are different in personality and attitude. One is a trophy, goal or end game and the other is a strong woman who likes to enjoy the better things. Fitzgerald was probably trying to get across a point that was to stick with the readers throughout the duration of the novel. Both being that woman are the reason of everything going on. The pure innocents of Gatsby is shown as he wants to be free of his poor upbringing, cut ties with the pass and become something more than dirt. Maybe the turn of events are there for us to understand what was bound to happen. He was driven by Daisy only after he had met her.
