The message that is brought forward, is to target a particular group of men; father’s, soon to be father’s and young men. The five minute video allows an insider’s perspective of how it feels to be a girl and experience the dangers of sexism. Degrading words, such as bitch or whore, is shown to have an impact on a young woman’s life. The boys struggle to realize the impact of their words in the video. They believe that name calling or telling sexist jokes is appropriate, due to the fact that no one has called them out on it. When the name calling eventually progresses to rape jokes or jokes against women, it allows rape culture to open its doors up to women who fall victim to men, who believe that these jokes are appropriate and act on them. …show more content…

To shine a light on how women face sexism. The video urges men to become allies and help stop sexism. Even if the video focuses on a woman’s struggle, many of us should not forget that other genders can also be prone to domestic abuse or rape. It is known, that men who have been rape or sexual assaulted are afraid to come forward. (Rosin, 2014). This is because, society has integrated the idea of hegemonic masculinity upon young boys especially. Society has also allowed the belief that men who do get raped or sexually assaulted by other men are deemed as gay, or there is no possible way a man can get raped. (Rosin, 2014). After all, the idea of hegemonic masculinity is that a man should be tough and be able to over power an attacker. However, that is not the case. In the past years, it is accounted that four to fifteen percent of victims that make up rape or sexual assault are men. (Rosin, 2014). Now, I am not saying we should ignore the sexism women face or focus solely on men being victims. I am saying that each gender will have a different experience when it comes to sexism or abuse. Every person on this earth, will experience sexism or abuse in a different way. Some people will feel it breathing down their necks, their whole lives, while others will barley feel its impact.
