1) Gender – Oxford dictionaries said that gender is “The state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones)” (Oxford dictionaries, 2014) Sexism – Oxford dictionaries states that Sexism is “Prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex” (Oxford dictionaries, 2014) Gender stereotyping – Houghton Mifflin Harcourt says Gender stereotyping is “are simplistic generalizations about the gender attributes, differences, and roles of individuals and/or groups” (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2013) Gender Equality – Cambridge dictionaries state that gender equality is “the act of treating women and men equally” (Cambridge dictionaries, 2014) …show more content…

There are lots of stereotypes in sport about that they can’t throw or run properly and the truth is that women can throw just as hard/strong or run as fast as men. Yes, men might be stronger in some fields of sport but that doesn’t mean that women are then weak at sport. Some people think that separation is not good in events that are thought to be equal if they are separate, male and female have different races. Lots of prize money that is given after competing has not been equal especially in the past. Only now are some events saying that the money should be equal and are actually doing something about it. Females are still paid less in some areas than men for the same sport and this make women not want to try as hard and push themselves and they end up feeling like they don’t want to participate anymore. For the first time at Wimbledon in 2007 they introduced equal pay for male and female. (Women 's sport foundation, 2011) In 2009 there was a study done about the equality of male sporting events and female sporting events being shown on TV. It was found that 96% of the time male sporting events were on TV and most of the information given on the news and information shown about sporting events taking place were mainly male events. Even more worrying is that in 2004 6.3% of sporting coverage was about women. (Women 's sport foundation, 2011) Now it has dropped to 1.6%. Gender roles can be cultural and personal. Your parent influences your gender role the most. Yes, there are some jobs that are still dominated by a certain sex such as leadership in armed forces, government positions (i.e. president, members on cabinet etc.) and engineering. ¡¡) A glass ceiling is like an imaginary ceiling that can’t be seen and it means that it is the level of management which women can be promoted to and then can’t move any higher. It is called the glass ceiling because it is not an actual thing but it just happens to women in business. (Napikoski, 2014) ¡¡¡) Businesses can have women higher up the management ladder after developing their skills. They can also support women in their jobs and encourage them. Make it easy for women to have children while in business like having a crèche where they work so it encourages women into the work place and so as soon as women want to have children they don’t have to completely give up their jobs. Also giving the women/mother and men/fathers get good amount of leave and maturity
