Dealing with generalized anxiety disorder can be very tricky for some patients. Having the knowledge of what a mental health disorder is can help patients figure out which treatment plan works best for them. I have conducted research of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and have came up with four comprehensive treatment plans. Psychoanalytic, Humanistic, Behavioral, and Cognitive Therapy all create different perspectives on treating a disorder. Saying the wrong thing to someone who is experiencing extreme anxiety can negatively impact their wellbeing. It is essential that those who are diagnosed with mental health disorders seek professional attention. By professional attention, that does not mean finding a doctor who can prescribe a pill to make one feel “better”. Several kinds of therapies are available as treatment plans in order to help those with disorders. This therapy is started with free association, which lets my patient talk freely about anything that comes to mind. The key is to look for common themes or issues the patient is experiencing. When uncovering unconscious conflicts in patients, we must be introduced to the issue and listen to what our patient is going through. With generalized anxiety disorder, it is simply finding what is causing them to worry. This may be obvious or it may take a while before being uncovered. Humanistic Therapy: This form of therapy views mental health disorders as results from distorted perception of the self and reality (Pastorino & Doyle Portillo, 2016). The goal with this therapy is to to help the patient be more accepting of themselves. In order for them to reach their full potential, they must be genuine. By being genuine, they will be more open to talk about their problems and share thoughts with others.
