1. 2.1 What does it mean to say that human beings are still created “in the image of God”? How does “the image of God” relate to the views known as dichotomy and trichotomy? Why is that idea of humans being in “the image of God” still important for our contemporary society? (chapter 6)
In Genesis 2:7, “then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” Mankind is one of a kind among every one of God’s manifestations, with a body and spirit. From the bible I don’t think we really know what the “image of God” means, but this is what I have to say about it. In the easiest terms, we were made to look like God. God’s image has been engraved on each of us. To be completely human is to completely mirror God. God said on the very last day of creation, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them,” (Genesis 1:26). I believe Satan’s goal was to make Eve think that God was withholding from her. He tested God’s orders by changing His words to cause Eve to question God. In Matthew 4 Satan was very persistent with Jesus being enticed by him in the wild. Satan came to Christ three times with three different temptations until after those attempts, he let Jesus go. The similarities I see between Genesis 2 and Matthew 4 are persistence, he uses fear, doubts, and just tempts people to sin. Adam and Eve made the big mistake of trusting the wrong person, Satan. God chose the correct path and didn’t trust Satan. I think the meaning behind when we pray, “lead us not into temptation,” we are praying for God’s help. We are asking God to direct us away from sin and difficult situations. As we know God is our deliverer. He wants us to be smart and wise and look for His power over
