The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Old Testament. This book is known for describing the beginnings of the world and how it came to be created by God. This book must first be read to understand the full message of the bible. In particular, Genesis 3 is a story that talks about the fall of man and how sin is brought to the world. Throughout the Genesis, it uses the story of different important people and symbolisms to talk about God and his creation of the world. There is a lot of controversy about when the book is first written, however, it is hypothesized that the book could have been written at around 15th-13th century B.C. As each chapter is read, it starts from the creation of the world, to the fall of man, and then to the Patriarchs. Genesis 3 is in the third chapter of the Genesis and is used to understand why sin is in the world through the story of Adam and Eve. Genesis is used as a stepping stool to understand the beginning of the world in the eye of the bible. Genesis 3 summarizes the important story of how Adam and Eve succumbed to sin and the lesson that everybody needs to learn in result of this fall. The theme of Genesis 3 is temptation. Will Adam and Eve fall for the tricks of Satan or will they keep their trust in God? God created Adam and Eve in His image and gave them “dominion over the animals”. This shows that Gods has complete trust in Adam and Eve. Eve is soon tempted by the serpent to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which God said not to do. This temptation of Eve led Adam to eat the fruit too, which resulted in God expelling them from the Garden of Eden so that they were not tempted to become immortal …show more content…

Each of these symbols have a role of significance throughout Genesis 3. The first symbol is the serpent. The serpent is the creature that tries to tempt Eve by telling her that eating the fruit will not make her die, rather it would make her become like God. When she eats the fruit, Adam is tempted by his wife to eat the fruit too. It turns out that the serpent is not a creature, but an embodiment of Satan. Satan uses the body of a serpent to ruin God’s creation by tempting Adam and Eve to commit the sin now known as the original sin. Satan uses the serpent because it symbolizes evil. The evil in which Satan is trying to sway Adam and Eve to. The next symbolism is the forbidden fruit. The forbidden fruit is the fruit on the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This fruit is the reason why Adam and Eve are expelled from the Garden. The fruit symbolizes temptation and eating the fruit means giving into that temptation. The fruit basically represents what you can’t have because God says so, but want it anyways. Temptation is the theme of Genesis 3, so that means the fruit is the most important element of the story. The fruit may represent temptation, but it could also symbolize God’s trust. God uses this fruit to see how much Adam and Eve truly believes and trusts in God.
