GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS
WHAT ARE GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS?
Genetically modified crops are crops which have their genetic material manipulated by means of genetic engineering. Genetic engineering is the modification of the characteristics of a specific organism by having their genetic material manipulated. Genetically modified crops are engineered to introduce new traits into the species. The purpose of genetically modifying crops is to basically produce crops that are

• The environmental impact of cultivating golden rice or if there is any risk. None have been found till date.
• Golden rice can have any effect on the DNA or anything of those who consume it.
DISADVANTAGES OF GOLDEN RICE
• While golden rice does have some nutrients to offer, there is evidence that the nutrients are not sufficient enough to make a difference.
• Golden rice can cause other people to get an allergy reaction.
• Golden rice can interfere with medications and can also reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics. Almost all genetically modified foods have antibiotic features to be insect resistant and to combat viruses and other germs. These antibiotic features can interfere with the human body’s response to antibiotics.
• There is always a risk of the genes of golden rice spreading out and affecting natural vegetation or the growth of weeds. The result could be super weeds that would be almost impossible to get rid of with normal herbicides.
We can gain food security by:
• starting food distribution systems
• try and get rapid economic growth
• create jobs or ways people can earn money
• create rapid growth in food
