The story of Genie influenced our understanding of language development by showing us that interaction is needed for language development. Genie had no interaction with anyone, the only interaction she had is when she beaten for talking. The time of Genie's "discovery", her linguistic abilities were that she hardly spoke or made any noises, she was mostly quiet at all times. Genie heard no noises because her father didn't like her to hear anything.
