“Genocide is an attempt to exterminate a people, not to alter their behavior.” Jack Schwartz couldn 't have said it better. Genocide is a way to get rid of your problem by elimination. It is no longer a threat if you start killing off a population. Genocide can happen anywhere as it did in Europe and in Africa. However, we always talk about those genocide events, but it has also happened in the United States of America. The United States of America is a country that has risen to power over the course of centuries. Like any other nation that has rose to power, inhumane acts can be found throughout its history. Manifest Destiny and The Trail of Tears were landmarks of US History. However, do people really know what was going on? During that time, Native Americans had no choice but to leave their homes and move westward. For those who resisted were killed or sent to refugee camps. Fast forward through time to the Philippine-American war. The US defeated Spain for control over Cuba and the Philippines. The Americans then decided to colonize the Philippines. However, they disagreed; they wanted to be an independent country. The US then proceeded to take the islands away by force, killing millions of Filipinos in the process. …show more content…
