Cape Verde is located off the upper west coast of Africa. As a region, the Sub-Saharan region generally refers to the countries that are trapped in the Sahara’s infamous heat, such as Angola, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central Africa Republic, Chad, and etc. The Cape Verde islands are like the Hawaiian islands of the Eastern hemisphere. The distance from Cape Verde to Florida is 3,789 miles. Geography and Climate of Cape Verde, Africa The Cape Verde islands consists of ten islands. It’s likely that they will have one meal that has cachupa. This is the national dish of Cape Verde. It is made with hominy, beans, and any other meats or vegetables available. They might pair the meals with sugar cane liquor, also known as Grog. Since most Cape Verdeans are non-practicing Roman Catholics there are few churches, and services. Although the majority of the population is Roman Catholic, there are Evangelical Christians, Seventh Day Adventists, and Mormons. Women usually tend to the children, house, cooking, and cleaning. There is quite a bit in the social workforce such as commerce, construction, and farming, however they are underrepresented in the political and white-collar professions. Fortunately, women are greatly respected in terms of gender equality because of the workload that they carry. Housing structures in the rural areas are usually made with clay and thatched roofs. In the 15th and 16th century many Cape Verdeans were enslaved, so to make matters easier slaves were taught a more simple form of Portuguese, thus forming the Cape Verdean Creole. Like many languages Portuguese evolved from Latin roots when Roman soldiers came on the Iberian Peninsula. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Germanic people gained power and took over. They adopted late Roman culture and the Vulgar Latin dialects. All of this happened in 409 CE and 711 CE. After 711 CE the Moorish invasion happened and Arabic became the common language.
