George Mason University is a university built on its research projects and can increase my chances of finding research that will change the world. At George Mason, I want to research cancer and steps to makes the process a bit easier.Cancer is a disease that causes 7.6 million deaths per year. I’ve had multiple people in my life who lost the battle to cancer and during their battle I’ve see the pain and struggle that they had to go through. The ultimate goal is to cure cancer but it might be more difficult with only some training with an undergraduate degree. It is important for me to research this because of the overwhelming statistic of cancer patients each year and it can affect anyone of every age. I can eat healthy and exercise everyday but I still have a chance of getting the aggressive disease. George Mason would give me the best research opportunity due to the close proximity of Washington D.C. and the surrounding hospitals. This specific research incorporates both of my passions- Psychology and Biology/Chemistry. When conducting this research, I can use my two subject passions to come up with a clear and versatile answer on managing cancer side effects. Not only will this research allow me to incorporate my interests but I can also conduct research outside of the classroom and in turn will help me build my science skills. The scientific method is taught in middle school but to apply it to a relevant case that can help real people, it will be groundbreaking for me personally. I will enter territory that I have not yet entered and will be a mindblowing experience for me.
