Tick,Tock the prison cell is filled with an eerie feeling. The prisoner waits and waits knowing that his end is to come but when he ponders,when will they come? Steps he hears coming his way he wonders is it them,is it time? Frightened with the thought that a rope will be the death of him and how his life will be taken from him. He thinks about a time where he was in his best phase believing that will relieve his current state of mind. Sweat slips down from his forehead to what seems like his whole body. He waits as he hears the footsteps getting closer until he sees the wardens right in front of the animal-like cage of the cell. He closes his eyes trying to control himself and opens them ready to lose his life. He does this because the guilt of seeing people hanged got to him. Through his depiction of a hanging, George Orwell not only reveals his inner guilt but also demonstrates how as humans we tend to be influenced by the pressure of society. George Orwell's first paragraph in his essay “ A hanging” depicts how he was one of the people committing this crime thus showcasing how he knew he was wrong but didn't stop the prisoner from being hung. He shows he was a part of this gruesome plot in hopes that others will not follow his way. He does this because he knows as humans we are easily influenced by the people around us. Right in the beginning of the first paragraph Orwell states “we were waiting outside the condemned cells,a row of sheds fronted with double bars like small animal cages”. By saying “we” he is showing that he was a part of this and by saying animal cages.He is comparing it to something gruesome or something most of us would not want to part take in. He uses a visual imagery in this quote so the audience can visualize how these prisoners lived and in
