In the article, “Shooting an Elephant,” George Orwell states that the Burmese hate the colonized people, because they did not have their own freedom and were unable to have control of their own country. The Burmese’s hate was so strong that they would spit juice on the European women and would laugh at George Orwell who was one of the European police officers. Under the British imperial’s control and oppression, the hate of the Burmese to the British government was growing. The Burma prisoners who were trying to fight against the oppression of the British were treated terribly. Orwell states that they were flogged with bamboos. The Burmese were unable to control and protect their own lives especially when the restless elephant attacked them.
