"Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men." George Patton his whole life aspired to be a soldier. Born on November 11, 1885 in San Gabriel California, you would never have expected him to become anything special, but he did.George Smith Patton Jr became one of the first tank commanders during world war 1 and then latter he was promoted to a general during world war 2 commanding troops in North Africa, Sicily, France and Germany. Many people might not think that being a soldier and general in two of the bloodiest wars in history would make you a American hero but if George Patton was not there to serve our country as an amazing general and tactician our life's could have been drastically different and a lot more life's would …show more content…

In 1904 George enrolled at the Virginia Military Institute but in one year he decided to leave and enrolled at West Point in 1905 but he had to repeat a year because his reading and writing issues but he still graduated on June 11, 1909 (bio.com). After graduating he was commissioned to the 15th Calvary Regiment as a second lieutenant and later in 1910 he married Beatrice Ayer. Even though he had a few problems in school George did not stop to complain or whine he continued and pushed through, and in 1912 participated in the summer Stockholm Olympics and placed 5th overall this was a very new fact to me I never knew that he ever was a Olympian, I only thought he was a general before this research. He was involved in the first motorized attack ever in America which succeeded in killing 2 of Francisco Villas commanders (The Official). April 9th 1917 the Americans joined the fight in Europe, also George Patton became the first member of the U.S tank Corps, George Patton set up a tank school in Bourg France where he trained 500 tankers and also acquired 345 tanks for use. During the war he won at the battle of Cambrai France and then later who at Meuse Agronne during this battle he was shot while he was sitting on top of a tank giving orders for this battle he later received the Distinguished service cross for heroism and the Purple Heart. In January 1918 he was promoted to major and later that year in April he was promoted to lieutenant colonel (General). The First World War ended in 1918 but it also ended up starting a Second World War because it's unfair treatment of Germany allowed Adolf Hitler to rise up with his empty but effective
