Even during Patton’s early life, he showed bravery and courage. He was born on November 11, 1885. He was the first child and the only son. His parents were Ruth Wilson and George Patton III (Patton). He lived on Lake Vineyard, a ranch near Los Angeles (Benson). George struggled in school, he could not read very well because he had a severe type of dyslexia. He was Also constantly bullied by classmates (Gitlin). In 1910 he married Beatrice Ayer, a friend from his childhood. She was the daughter of a very wealthy man who did not want her to marry George because he did not want her to be married to a military officer. They had three children, George Patton IV, Beatrice Smith, and Ruth Ellen (Benson). Later on, he started studying various types of swordsmanship as well as gunfighting. George Patton helped pave the way to some of the more advanced tanks and military equipment that there are now. This is a big part of why he is so famous today. George Patton was a vital part in winning many different battles during WWII. He operated various technologies that assisted greatly during battles. The most famous one however, was the tank. These tanks had proved very successful in France during the Battle of Cambrai. Patton decided to study this battle, and soon became one of the best experts in tank warfare. He then started the American Tank School in Bourg, France, where he trained American students to pilot French Renault tanks (George). After his first battle, a battle in St. Mihiel in 1918, he was wounded in the Battle of Meuse-Argonne. Some time after the battle, he was awarded with the Distinguished Service Medal because of his leadership and for establishing the Tank School
