Because of the influence George Rutaganda had on the Hutu extremist group known as the Interahamwe and the overall country of Rwanda, it can be argued that he is the also to blame for the genocide. George Rutaganda has a radio station where he would spread propaganda all around Rwanda about the Tutsis’. He would “urge people to do their duty and seek out the Tutsis and Tutsi-sympathizers living among them in their streets or villages.” Rutaganda had so much power and led the people of Rwanda into believing that the Tuti’s were evil. As the President of Rwanda was on his way to sign the peace treaty between the Hutu’s and the Tutsi’s, the Interahamwe intervened with his plane and killed him. They blamed their actions on the Tutsi’s and this gave them a reason to start the genocide. They used their power in numbers to murder thousands of people and they had no logical reason to do it. The Interahamwe carried out the genocide and are to take the blame for this. This extremist group would also ransack houses, steal money and valuable items after they murdered the Tutsi families. According the the movie Hotel Rwanda, they “targeted the younger generation” to prevent new Tutsi’s from being born. They were the group of people committing almost all of the murder in 1994.
