George Soros Warns Friends on Troubling Times Ahead
George Soros has publicly shared a tacit holiday message, he wrote to friends warning that times had change and that it was no longer business as usual. In an article published on the Business Insider on January 24, Soros recalls his experience as a Hungarian Jew, who escaped the Nazi occupied Hungary to become a US citizen after the end of WWII. He believes he would have most likely lost his life had his father not made timely arrangements to repatriate his family and the other Jews from the throws of death that hang over their shoulders at the time Following that experience, Soros knows too well what a repressive regime can do to its citizens.
When he was escaping the Communist led Hungary to go to England in 1947, Soros knew little of what awaited him. While he was a student at the prestigious London School of Economics, he learnt a lot from philosopher Karl Popper, before coming up with his own philosophy that reiterated the values of fallibility and reflexibility. Soros fight for a just society led him to become a strong proponent of democratic principles, where people choose their leaders. In the current scheme of things, Soros is perturbed by the identity crisis engulfing open societies; this coming at a time when repressive fascist dictatorships are on the rise.
