George Strait was born May 18, 1952 in Poteet Texas. His father John Byron Strait who was a school teacher and his mother Doris Couser. He was raised on a 2,000 acre family owned cattle ranch. Throughout his childhood, he would spend weekends on the ranch. George had a sister and brother. His parents divorced when he was young. His mother left, taking her daughter with her. In high school he joined a rock and roll garageband. But his interest shifted to country music. In his home town he would attend many country music performances which is where he got his inspiration. He made a record for the most No.1 albums in the history of country music. He also produced a top ten hit every year for a consecutive of 30 years. This was a world record in the history of music. In 2006, he was elected into the Country Hall of Fame. In 2008, he won his first grammy for the “Best Country Album”. In 2009, he was named “artist of the decade” for the 2000s. Across the world, George was the most popular contermapy singer. George started as someone of little importance but came to fame overnight. His biggest influences were Lefty Frizzell, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, and George Jones. “You know, legends are people like Haggard and Jones and Wills and Sinatra. Those people are legends. I'm just a young buck out here trying to keep in that same circle with the rest of 'em” (George Strait). George Strait was different from other country music artists. Wherever he was, he stood out. He stayed true to the traditional and contemporary country sound while mixing in his own style of music. His music had a blend of western swing and honky tonk. For instance, “All My Exes Live in Texas” is a fun country song with a little zing. This song captures the true 80s country music. It is a mix of line dance and honky tonk.“Check Yes or No” is also another great contemporary song with a blend of western swing. George does not originally write his songs but he has some of the best songwriters. Some of the his best songwriters are Dean Dillon, Bryon Hill, and Steve Bogard. George Strait said, “ I just haven't been a very motivated songwriter, I'm just lazy about it. There's so many good songwriters out there … If I put my mind to it, I know I could write.
