President Washington ended his presidential terms as America’s first president with one of the most influentially written speeches in history. Although the speech was never actually presented by Washington, it was published in a Philadelphia newspaper in 1796 nine years after the declaration of independence was signed. The speech was revised multiple times before it was finally published. It was his second and final announcement for retirement after so many years. His first announcement for retirement was when he retired from the Continental Army. George Washington was always a leader from the Revolutionary war times. He led America to victory that’s why it was fit for him to be a leader. In his speech he left advice for the presidents of America. He strongly suggested that they avoid dividing the country into political parties and to stay out of foreign affairs. Washington wrote this speech to express his want to retire and be done with all politics. He was tired of the demands of public life. He strongly suggested we shouldn’t divide the population by political parties. This came from disagreements Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton had about their separate parties. He encouraged our citizens to get educated and live every sense of morals. He suggested America stay out of foreign affairs and to avoid making alliances with any other country. He warned us of over borrowing money and bringing the country into unnecessary debt. He warned about how bad these things would be to the country.
