Located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia State University (GSU) is a major research institution of higher education offering over 250 diverse degree programs within nine colleges. Each fall, the University sees new faculty, staff, and students come in with a whole new set of electronic devices and it is the job of the University to support all devices that come into the door. Faculty, staff, and students are literally coming from all parts of the world and they’re bringing their devices, sometimes with different protocols for connecting. To keep hardware and infrastructure costs at a bay the University acquires technology fee revenues by the students. I agreed with his statement because the greatest tools are those that are aligned with the organization strategy. For example: when windows 8 came out, the University decided to not follow suit because it didn’t follow the goals and objectives of the University. Now in 2016, the University is rolling out Windows 10 on faculty, staff, and student lab computers. The biggest improvements Phil and his staff have seen are around security and management. Microsoft’s in-place upgrades make it easier for IT to begin University-wide deployments. A substantial part of this is strategic innovation. New software and or hardware is based on new technology are the essence of the University. Like other businesses higher education has been interrupted by technology. Hence, the forthcoming technology of the University must incorporate the following attributes: mass customization, multi-channel, multi-disciplinary, global, collaborative, realistic, entrepreneurial, and universal view of faculty, staff, and student success. In the end adding a CTO to the University has the made the University technological innovations rise. The CTO provides that strong expertise on the internal application of technology. As well as add value to the University and provide a motto to encourage, help, and support innovative solutions to improve education, research, and of higher education institution.
