Currently, Tech’s vision statement is as follows: Georgia Tech will define the technological research university of the twenty-first century. As a result, we will be leaders in influencing major technological, social, and policy decisions that address critical global challenges. “What does Georgia Tech think?” will be a common question in research, business, the media, and government. (“Georgia Tech Fact Book Vision/Mission Statements,” 2010) According to college president G.P. “Bud” Peterson, Tech must expand on its strengths in engineering and programming to “help us better serve the state, the region, and the nation through our education, research, innovation, and global reach” (2010). It covers areas such as confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements, conflict of interest policy, consulting, contracts, intellectual property and copyright, Open Records Act policy, and presidential signature authority (“Legal Issues Policy Book,” 2015). The records and publications policy book covers publications produced by Tech faculty, staff, and students as well as policies of the Tech library. Areas covered include copyrights, thesis and dissertation publication, and Tech’s open access policy (“Records & Publications Policy Book,” 2015). The research support policy library covers policies of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) including industry contacts, investigational drug agreements, and research administration policies (“Research Support Policy Book,” 2015). GTRI will be covered in greater depth in the section of this paper labeled Research Structure. Finally, the student affairs policy book includes coverage of issues impacted Tech students, including administrative student policies, the college catalog, graduate student policies, Student Government Associations, student sexual misconduct, academic honors, and missing student notification policy (“Student Affairs Policy Book,”
