When the Berlin Wall went up, Gerta, her mother, and her brother Fritz are trapped. They realize that her and her family get divided overnight.They are trapped on the eastern side where they were living. While her father, and her other brother Dominic are in the West. Four years later, now twelve, Gerta sees her father on a viewing platform on the western side. She realizes he wants her to risk her life trying to tunnel to freedom. Gerta does go for that risk. She ends up making it to the other side with her family. Otherwise her brother and her dad. Although Gerta did have to go through a wild journey to get to her family. It took boldness and courage. She couldn’t have it during the story until towards the end. I added a gate with wires sticking out because that was the whole thing of the story. The story was about the gate that went up and that it was super hard to get through there because of the wires poking out and all the security. I put a girl in the bag because representing Gerta and her courageousness. Gerta was very important in the story.
The problem was that one night Gerta’s dad and brother went to the other side to do something. That night Gerta heard some noise. She ignored it. In the morning, there was this wall built. People were luckily sneaking out because the other people were not done making the wall yet, Gerta’s mother was too stubborn to leave though. Gerta had to go the tough route and risk her life to get back to her family.
Gerta, her mom, and fritz did not have any other way to get to the other side. So they took Gerta’s fathers idea. They started to build the tunnel. It was a challenge for them, but they did end up finishing it. Gerta and her family sneaked into the tunnel and finally got to be with her father and her brother.
