Throughout the play Hamlet by Shakespeare, Gertrude and Ophelia, are controlled and handled by the men. Gertrude is the queen and mother of hamlet, and Ophelia being the daughter of Polonius and love of Hamlet.While the manipulation empowered them,being that is the reason for the male's actions,they are consistently used by the current king, Claudius, Polonius, and Hamlet, their words and actions are dictated by the males, and are used as methods for men to get what they want, mainly from the other men.
Throughout the book Ophelia contemplates the love Hamlet has for her. She deeply knows that despite the craziness Hamlet has going for himself his love hasn't changed. But Ophelia’s father uses his power over her, to get in the good graces of king Claudius. He twists Hamlet’s vows and tells Ophelia,”Ay, springes to catch …show more content…

He only married the Queen as a strategy to help him seize the throne away from Hamlet after the death of the King. Not knowing that Claudius killed Old hamlet, Gertrude allows and trust Claudius for having a motive of saving the nation and agrees to marry him. Claudius also portrays himself as a loving and caring stepfather to Hamlet in order to gaining Gertrude's love and trust. Claudius shows his concern for Hamlet's mental illness, but in his mind, he is feed up with Hamlet and having the intention to kill him. According to “The Manipulative Nature of Claudius in Shakespeare's Hamlet”,”Claudius sent the prince to England alongside Rosencrantz and Guildenstern with letters that would arrange Hamlet’s death, making it look like an accident (NB Web).” He tries his best to be really nice to the queen so that he could seize the crown easily. Gertrude is objectified by Claudius ," I am still possess'd Of those effects for which I did the murder:My crown, mine own ambition, and my queen. May one be pardon'd and retain th' offense(Macbeth Pg.190)?” shows she does not come first to
