Bruce Joel Rubin’s “Ghost the Musical” was performed at American High School, by the American High School Performing Arts department, directed by Troy River. The cast presented an incredible performance that made the audience instantly fall in love with Molly and Sam. Richard Wong whom conducted the orchestra uplifted the music of each scene. The remarkable acting of the cast along with the many special effects was an incredible way to bring the script to life.
“Ghost the Musical” takes place in modern day New York City and is a story of the strength of love between the main characters Molly (Natalie Dunn) and Sam (Marcus Bautista). However, one night while walking back to their apartment Molly and Sam are mugged, leaving Sam murdered. Sam does not know that his best friend, Carl (Devan Mathur), arranged for Willie Lopez (Nicolas Loaiza) to kill Sam. Molly’s laid back outfit of a white tank top and overalls outline her kind personality and how she does not need much to live a happy life. The spacious loft where Molly can do her pottery and carve wooden sculptures depicted her skill as a creative artist. The loft was surrounded by brick wall which was actually missing some brick, and it really made the scene look like present day New York City. In the scene where we get to see subway ghost slow down time was incredible. The actors made choppy movement to express that their movement were being manipulated. The flashing lights and the orchestra changed the perception of the audience, making us believe that time was actually being slowed down. Coresspondingly, the red light in the background depicted hell and both Carl and Willie Lopez get dragged there. This scene created satisfaction for the audience and proved the saying “what goes around comes
