What is the greatest gift that you ever received? The definition of a gift is often debated, however a true gift is one that comes from the heart. It does not matter how much money you put into it, it is the thought that you put into it that counts. In Harper Lee's novel, To Kill A Mockingbird she reveals what a gift is and the role it has upon the people who give it and the people who receive it. At of the hundreds of gifts received, four are truly important and have a much deeper meaning, The first gift is the soap dolls Jem and Scout receive from Boo Radley. The second gift that had an important meaning is the gift of adventure Boo gave to the children. The third gift is given by Atticus and it is the gift of strength that he gives to Maycomb County. The final gift is the food the Finch family received from the Negro community. All in all, in her novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee exemplifies many underlying meanings through the act of gift giving. …show more content…

When walking home from school, the children would frequently find gifts that Boo was leaving them in the tree on the Radley yard. One day the gift they found was soap dolls of themselves. Just looking at the gift for itself makes it seem weird, but when you analyze the deeper meaning it is not weird after all. "They were almost perfect miniatures of two children. The boy had on shorts, and a shock of soapy hair fell to his eyebrows..." (Lee 60). This is important because it showed that Boo had been watching the children through his window.
